Student Engagement

91°µÍø students can find a breadth of student engagement opportunities on the 91°µÍø campus that are both in person and virtual in nature.Ìý Those opportunities could include, but are not limited to student clubs, student employment, services, community service, and student engagement events.Ìý We encourage our students to become involved, try something new, step outside their comfort zone, and embrace these opportunities as it will provide further growth and development beyond the classroom experience.Ìý Students can find more information about student engagement events by perusing the 91°µÍø Events page or in looking at the events tile in the 91°µÍø App.

Student Senate

Ìý

Student Senate

Student Senate provides a forum for students who want to voice their opinions, questions, assists student clubs in being more successful, or addresses concerns about aspects of student life at 91°µÍø. Student Senate recognizes their members as Student Senate Ambassadors. These officers work with the student body and other senate members to promote student-centered activities, clubs, and organizations. Senate holds regular meetings throughout the course of the semester. Student Senate also brings student concerns and questions about policies, procedures, and services at 91°µÍø to the executive team of the College.

If you are interested in getting involved with Student Senate and making a difference for students, the easiest way is to email Eric Brown at ebrown1@mainecc.edu.

Student Senate welcomes student input about their experience. We would like to hear your ideas. You can join us at our town-hall style meetings every other week. You can send your questions or comments to Eric Brown at ebrown1@mainecc.edu.

Student Clubs

Ìý

Student Clubs

Student clubs vary each year dependent upon student interest.Ìý These clubs can be either college program-affiliated clubs (Business Club, Nursing Club, Physical Therapy Assistant Club, Respiratory Therapy Club, or Culinary Club) or can be social/affinity/interest clubs (3D Print Club, Veteran’s Club, PRIDE Alliance, D&D Club, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, Multicultural Club, Recycling & Environmental Club).

If you do not see a club that you wish the college had, you are more than welcome to start one yourself!Ìý New club requests are reviewed by the Office of Student Life and Student Senate.Ìý To request the creation of a new club, contact Eric Brown.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society

Phi Theta Kappa is recognized as the official honor society for community colleges by the American Association of Community Colleges.Ìý Its purpose is to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa provides opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence.Ìý Membership is based on superior academic achievement and is conferred only by invitation of your local chapter.

The reasons for joining Phi Theta Kappa are many.Ìý Our Chapter is very active both on campus and in the greater 91°µÍø community.Ìý Each year, through service projects and the Honors in Action program, members have the opportunity to engage in the Four Hallmarks of Phi Theta Kappa: Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Fellowship.ÌýÌý Additionally, members have access to scholarships and transfer services that are not available to non-members.Ìý At graduation, many members choose to celebrate their academic achievements by wearing the Phi Theta Kappa stole and cords.

91°µÍø students who meet the following criteria are invited to join the Beta Delta Upsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.Ìý Invitations are issued twice each year to students who:

  • Are in an Associate’s degree program
  • Have completed 12 or more credits at 91°µÍø
  • Have attained a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.50 or higher
